Public Enemy Headlining “Movement Electronic Music Festival”; Plan To Premiere New Music

Rap icons Public Enemy have been scheduled to headline and perform at this year’s Movement Electronic Music Festival which takes place in Detroit during Memorial Day weekend.

In addition to their headlining performance on Sunday, March 27, Public Enemy will be previewing new music from their upcoming album, Most of My Heroes Still Don’t Appear On No Stamp, which is set for release later this year along with a second brand-new album titled The Evil Empire of Everything.

In 2011 alone, the Movement Electronic Music Festival drew a crowd of almost 100,000 fans to Detroit’s Hart Plaza. In an interview with Billboard, festival artist coordinator Chuck Flask said, “Our lineup for 2012 is comprised of artists who are innovators in their own right and who have deep roots within the underground worlds of their respective musical genres. With Movement, our goal is always to book artists who represent the purest form of the music we all fell in love with, whether they have been doing it for decades, or are an emerging talent new on the scene. With this announcement, we are well on our way to achieving our goal.”

Other performers at this year’s festival inciude Lil’ Louis, Mr. Oizo, Busy P, Damian Lazarus, Major Lazer, Radio Slave, and many more.  In addition to Movement’s five stages, the festival will feature art exhibits and an interactive technology center.

Tickets for the Movement Electronic Music Festival are now on sale and are priced at $75 for a three-day pass and $200 for a V.I.P. ticket.

Funk Pioneer George Clinton Gets Doctorate From Berklee

Legendary funk music icon George Clinton received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music last night (February 16).

The legendary musician was honored with the degree as the culmination of a four day residency that he held at Berklee College of Music this week, in Boston.

During the ceremony, George Clinton hosted a performance with Berklee College of Music’s P-Funk Ensemble, which consists of student musicians.

During the show, George Clinton changed into a silver suite and performed classic P-Funk songs like “Testify,” “Give Up the Funk,” and “One Nation Under a Groove.”

P-Funk’s legendary horn players Bennie Cowan and Greg Thomas joined him on stage.

Hundreds of Hip-Hop artists have sampled George Clinton, P-Funk, Funkadelic, Parliament and other artists in his catalog.

A$AP Rocky Tapped To Perform At MTVU’s “Woodie Awards Festival”

Rising rapper A$AP Rocky has been tapped to perform at the 2012 “Woodie Awards Festival” being presented by mtvU.

A$AP Rocky joins new artists like Walk The Moon, Wallpaper and fun., who will all hit the stage during the event, which will take place on March 15 during the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.

All of the acts are nominated for a “Breaking Woody” award, for their success over the past 12 months.

“I’m excited to be performing at this year’s ‘Woodie Awards Festival’ and I feel blessed that people are recognizing the work me and my A$AP team are putting in,” said A$AP Rocky.

The performances lead up to the 2012 mtvU Woody Awards, which will air on MTV’s 24-hour college network, mtvU.

On Sunday, March 18, 2012, mtvU will air highlights from the show on the half-hour “2012 mtvU Woodie Awards” special.
